What is Somatic Therapy?

When Talk Therapy Isn't Enough

Trauma, anxiety, and stress are not just "in your head"—they are physically stored in your nervous system and muscles. While talk therapy processes the story, Movement Therapy processes the sensation.

Through guided, expressive movement, we bypass the analytical brain to release deep-seated tension and restore your body's natural rhythm.

🌊

Fluidity vs. Rigidity

Unlike Yoga which focuses on holding poses, we focus on continuous, expressive flow to "unfreeze" emotional blockages.

🧠

Nervous System Regulation

Learn to self-soothe. We use rhythm and grounding techniques to move your body from "Fight or Flight" to "Rest and Digest."

💃

Authentic Expression

There is no "right" way to move. It's not about how it looks; it's about how it feels inside.

Core Benefits

Why Your Body Needs to Move

This isn't just exercise; it's emotional hygiene. By moving with intention, you unlock benefits that sitting in a chair simply cannot provide.

🔓

Release Stored Trauma

Animals "shake off" stress after a threat. Humans tend to freeze. We help you physically release the tension and trauma trapped in your muscles and fascia.

🧘

Emotional Regulation

Anxiety makes us feel disconnected. Grounding movements help calm a hyper-aroused nervous system, bringing you back to a state of safety and balance.

👁️

Deep Body Awareness

Reconnect with your physical self. Learn to listen to your body's subtle signals of hunger, fatigue, and boundaries before they become burnout.

A Typical Session

How It Works

No two sessions are alike, but every journey follows a safe, guided structure designed to help you connect, express, and integrate.

🌱

1. Grounding

We begin in stillness. Through breathwork and sensory awareness, we help your nervous system settle into a state of safety and presence.

🌊

2. Exploration

Using guided prompts (not choreography), you are invited to move intuitively. This is where emotions are accessed and released through the body.

🕊️

3. Integration

We close with rest and reflection. This allows your mind to process the physical release, turning the experience into lasting emotional insight.

Common Questions
About Somatic Healing

Do I need dance experience? +
Not at all. This is not a dance class. There is no choreography to learn and no "right" way to move. We focus on how movement *feels* from the inside, not how it looks from the outside.
What if I have physical limitations? +
Movement therapy is incredibly adaptable. We can work with small, subtle movements or even seated movement. The goal is connection, not exertion. Please inform us of any injuries beforehand.
Is it normal to get emotional? +
Yes, and it is very welcome. Since we are releasing stored tension, emotions often surface. Our sessions provide a safe, non-judgmental container to process whatever comes up.
What should I wear? +
Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. We typically practice barefoot to help with grounding, but socks are fine too.
